We expect a strong response from the partners: when the Russian Federation’s vessels will be not able to entry easily civilized ports, they will see the price for their impudence – the Minister of Defence of Ukraine2022-02-10 13:40:24 | ID: 66402
Regarding the situation in the waters of the Azov-Black Sea Region as of February 10, the Naval Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports the following.
The Russian Federation continues its destructive activity to destabilize the security situation in the Azov-Black Sea Region by blocking a large part of maritime areas – almost the entire south of the Sea of Azov and the northwestern part of the Black Sea. With coastal warning (ПРИП 41/22, 42/22, 43/22) Russia has declared large areas of the Azov and Black Sea areas unsafe to sail for the period from 13 to 19 February in connection with exercises involving missile and artillery fire.
In this way, the Russian Federation has once again demonstrated an abuse of the international law in order to achieve its geopolitical objectives at the expense of other subjects of the international law, including Ukraine. These actions pose another threat to Ukraine’s sovereignty in its territorial sea area and in its sovereign rights in the exclusive maritime economic zone. By blocking the recommended sea lanes, the Russian Federation has made it literally impossible to navigate in these areas and allow ships to enter Ukrainian seaports, especially in the Sea of Azov, that is a clear violation of both the spirit and the conditions of the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
Also, Russia continues to militarize the Black Sea Region, transferring additional landing ships to put pressure on Ukraine and the world.
The Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are ready for development of any scenarios and provocations, to defend the country from the sea.
“Russia continues to actively militarize the Crimean Peninsula, continues to use the temporarily occupied territory as a training ground. We are currently witnessing training and the accumulation of weapons in this regard, the withdrawal and deployment of units of the Russian Armed Forces, the blocking of the Azov and Black Seas "for training" - a tactic of creeping occupation of the sea, which they have long been using. If there is no joint reaction from the world to these attempts of pressure, the Kremlin, and not just the Kremlin, could use such tactics around the globe. Our partners have demonstrated a strong response by supplying weapons. Currently, we expect a strong response from the partners: when the Russian Federation’s vessels will be not able to entry easily civilized ports, they will see the price for their impudence” says Oleksii Reznikov, Minister of Defence of Ukraine.
