On February 25, Minister of Defence of Ukraine Andrii Taran held a telephone conversation with Minister of National Defense of Canada Harjit Singh Sajjan.

Current security situation in Ukraine and around its borders has been discussed. The heads of defence agencies of Ukraine and Canada paid attention to the practical implementation of Ukraine’s status as a NATO Enhanced Opportunities Partner, as well as specified direction of concentration in this area.

“Our Canadian partners are constantly assisting to strengthen the institutional capabilities of Ukraine’s Defence Ministry. Modern principles of defence management and democratic civilian control undergo implementation, and leaders of the strategic and operational levels receive their training. Canada provides all opportunities to improve skills and field training of units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine within the Operation UNIFIER. Therefore, Canada’s key role in training of Ukraine’s defence and security forces is unquestionable”, — noted Andrii Taran.

In turn, Minister of National Defence of Canada assured his Ukrainian counterpart in the continued support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within the internationally recognized borders, as well as implementation of the defence reform.

The telephone conversation has once again reaffirmed the mutual willingness to continue a constant dialogue at the military-political level.
