On June 25, Minister of Defence of Ukraine Andrii Taran congratulated the personnel of the Yevhen Bereznyak Military Diplomatic Academy on the occasion of the 26th officer’s graduation.

— Today’s celebrations are special not only because they take place during the quarantine. The aggression of the Russian Federation, which, in a full disregard of the international law, annexed Crimea and continues this criminal occupation of part of our sovereign territory, has been going on for more than six years. Over the years, many of your colleagues, including those of you who are now among graduates, proved that they are true professionals during deployment to the East of Ukraine, — said the Minister of Defence.

The head of the Defence Ministry congratulated the research and teaching staff and graduates on the completion of the academic year and thanked the leadership of the Academy for their significant contribution to the training of officers.

— For me, as a person who gave many years of his life to military intelligence, and in the first, most difficult two years of Russian aggression, defended the interests of Ukraine in the Joint Centre for Control and Coordination in Donbas, the words “honour and patriotism of an intelligence officer” have a significant personal dimension. A striking example of devotion, heroism and sacrifice is a graduate of the Military Diplomatic Academy in 2016, Hero of Ukraine Maj. Gen. Maksym Shapoval, who, unfortunately, was tragically killed as a result of the terrorist act on June 27, 2017, — said Andrii Taran.

The audience observed a moment of silence in memory of the Heroes who gave their lives for the independence of Ukraine.

"I believe that armed with the knowledge gained at the Academy, you will continue to apply the experience gained in the development of Ukraine’s military intelligence and ensure the transition of its activities to NATO standards, — emphasized Defence Minister.

Andrii Taran presented diplomas with honours and gold medals to graduates. He also presented shoulder straps to officers who were promoted in rank.

After the graduation ceremony, a ritual of farewell of the graduates with the Battle Flag took place.

After the ceremonial events, the Chief of the Yevhen Bereznyak Military Diplomatic Academy, Col. Pavlo Krysiak, presented the modern educational and material base of the academy to the Minister of Defence of Ukraine. Andrii Taran visited classes and auditoriums in honour of the Heroes of Ukraine Yevhen Bereznyak and Maksym Shapoval.
