Minister of Defence visited naval base in Ochakiv and inspected armoured boat “Berdyansk”

On April 2, during a working visit to the Mykolaiv region, the Minister of Defence of Ukraine Andrii Taran and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Col. Gen. Ruslan Khomchak visited Navy units based in Ochakiv.

The head of the defence agency inspected the naval base in the port of Ochakiv, as well as 84th arsenal of the Navy.

The chief of the arsenal reported to the leadership of the Defence Ministry and the Armed Forces on the state of affairs and further plans for the development and operation of the arsenal.

Andrii Taran also inspected the Ukrainian small armoured artillery boat “Berdyansk”, which was shelled and captured by Russian troops in November 2018 in the Black Sea. Only a year later, in November 2019, “Berdyansk” and “Nikopol” boats, as well as “Yany Kapu” tugboat, were returned by Russia to Ukraine in accordance with the decision of the International Maritime Arbitration Court. Ukrainian ships which returned from the Russian Federation, lacked weapons, equipment and assets.
