Welcome to the Press Centre of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine. Here is the weekly update of the situation in the operation area of the Joint Forces from 23 to 29 March 2020.
1. Over the last week, the situation was tense both on Donetsk and Luhansk directions. The Russian occupation troops continued to shell the JFO positions with 120 mm and 82 mm mortars, which should be withdrawn from the frontline according to the Minsk agreements. The enemy also used antitank missiles, grenade launchers, heavy machine guns and other small arms. Our brave defenders provided harsh response to the armed provocations of the enemy.
Over the past week, from 23 to 29 March, Ukrainian defenders positions fell under provocative fire by the Russian occupation troops for 69 times.
Every day, the Russian occupation troops used forbidden heavy armament.
On March 23, the enemy shelled the JFO positions with 120mm and 82mm mortars by firing nearly 40 mines against Ukrainian positions near Novotoshkivske settlement. Apart from that, the occupation troops fired antitank missile against military truck which transferred foodstuff not far from Shumy settlement.
Over the course of March 25, the enemy fired nearly 35 different calibre mines.
And on March 26, the Russian occupation troops fired 50 120mm and 82mm mines near Pavlopil settlement.
Apart from that, on March 28, in a blatant violation of the Minsk agreements, the enemy fired 66 different calibre mines against positions of Ukrainian defenders.
Moreover, on March 24, the occupation troops used different infantry armament to open provoking fire in the disengagement area № 3 Bohdanivka — Petrivske settlements. There was no fire in response from the JFO units which are deployed to the area.
Our brave warriors opened adequate fire in response to suppress enemy’s activity and strictly adhering to the Minsk agreements. According to the intelligence data, over the last week, 5 Russian mercenaries were KIA and 25 were WIA.
Unfortunately, as the result of the Russian armed aggression, 4 Ukrainian servicemen were WIA. They were all transported to the military medical facilities and provided with the necessary medical support.
I would like also to stress that No COVID — 19 infection case among personnel of the Joint Forces units was recorded.
2. And now to the information from the Defence Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
Russian occupation administrations on the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions try to convince local population through media that there are no COVID-19 infection cases recorded. At the same time, they conceal the information that infection sections in hospitals are full of patients with high fever. Only during the previous week, 9 deaths from pneumonia were recorded, which had signs of COVID — 19.
Apart from that, Russian Federation continues to supply fuel, ammunition and armament through the uncontrolled border areas. From the beginning of March, 30 carriages of ammunition, approximately 8 thousand tons of fuel materials, as well as 10 tanks and combat vehicles were delivered to the occupied territories. Moreover, so-called “volunteer organizations” have been actively providing 1st and 2nd Army Corps with communication assets, optical sights, as well as large amount of anti Ukrainian propagandist literature.
This is all information for now!
Glory to Ukraine!
