Welcome to the Press Center of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. Here is the weekly update of the situation in the operations area of the Joint Forces from 06 to 12 January 2020.
During the last week, the Russian occupation troops continued to violate the ceasefire. In a flagrant violation of the Minsk agreements, the enemy used 122 mm artillery systems, as well as 120 mm and 82 mm mortars. Moreover, occupation troops used grenade launchers, small arms and other infantry weapons.
Over the past week, from 06 to 12 January 2020, Ukrainian defenders’ positions fell under provocative fire by the Russian Occupation troops for 39 times. Thus:
On January 06, the enemy fired 82 mm mortars against the JFO positions near Krymske settlement.
On January 08, the occupation troops fired 12 122 mm artillery shells and more than 30 120 mm mines against Ukrainian defenders near Hutir Vilnyi settlement.
Over the course of January 10, in violation of the Minsk agreements, Russian occupation troops fired 14 122 mm artillery shells and 75 82 mm and 120 mm mines.
On January 11, the enemy shelled Krasnohorivka settlement with 120 mm mortars.
And on January 12, the occupation troops used 82 mm mortars against Ukrainian defenders near Novotoshkivske and Orihove settlements.
The situation in the operation area is under full control of the Joint Forces.
Our servicemen opened fire in response to suppress enemy activity using infantry weapons and by strictly adhering to the Minsk agreements.
As the result of the Russian armed aggression, 9 servicemen from the JFO were WIA.
We want to inform with grief that over the past week, 1 serviceman was KIA.
Ministry of Defense expresses sincerest condolences to families and loved ones of the deceased defender!
And now to the information from the Defense Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Disregarding official claims regarding the ceasefire made by the Russian occupation troops, they continue to destabilize situation on the frontline. During New Year and Christmas holidays, occupation troops have equipped new firing positions to provoke fire and to cause casualties among the JFO forces. Enemy’s reconnaissance groups have been actively seeking vulnerable targets within the JFO defenses as well as potential sniper targets.
At the same time, sniper groups which were trained by the Russian active officers were deployed to the frontline units
What is more, Russian occupation troops have intensified training activities of artillery and mortar crews within units of the 1st and 2nd Army Corps of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. For this aim, the enemy increased artillery and mortar ammunition stockpiles on separate directions, and some frontline units were enhanced with antitank missile systems.
That is all information for now!
Glory to Ukraine!
