Welcome to the Press Center of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. Here is the weekly update of the situation in the operations area of the Joint Forces from 14 to 20 October 2019.
1. During the last week, the number of the ceasefire violations was high. The Russian Occupation troops continue to use 120 mm and 82 mm mortars as well as 122mm artillery systems which are forbidden by the Minsk agreements. Moreover, the enemy used small arms, grenade launchers, heavy machine guns, Infantry Fighting Vehicles and other infantry weapons.
Over the past week, from 14 to 20October 2019, Ukrainian defenders’ positions fell under provocative fire by the Russian Occupation troops for 154 times. Thus:
On October 14, the enemy has used 82 mm and 120 mm mortars near Dolomitne, Lebedynske and Vodiane settlements.
On October 16, the Russian Occupation troops have fired 41 120 mm and 47 82 mm mines against the JFO positions.
What is more, on October 17, in violation of the Minsk agreements, the Russian Occupation troops have fired 64 120 mm and 82 mm mines as well as 16 122 mm artillery shells against the JFO positions along the contact line.
Once again on October 18, the enemy has fired 16 120 mm and 7 82 mm mines.
The situation in the operation area is under full control of the Joint Forces.
Our servicemen opened fire in response to suppress enemy activity using infantry weapons and by strictly adhering to the Minsk agreements.
2. As the result of the Russian armed aggression, 7 servicemen from the JFO were WIA and 1 got combat trauma. They were all transferred to the military medical facilities.
We want to inform with grief that 2 servicemen and 1 servicewoman were killed by defending our country in the East.

3. And now to the information from the Defense Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
Command of the Russian Occupation troops is constantly increasing capabilities of the units of 1st and 2nd Army Corps of the Russian Armed Forces. From October 14 the Russian Occupation troops has started military exercises in “Southern” (Donetsk region) and “Central” (Luhansk region) military ranges. Units involved in the exercises are in full combat readiness. Oversight and control over the exercises are conducted by the commission of the Southern Military District of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (HQ is located in Rostov – on – Don).
Moreover, instructors from the Special operation Forces of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are conducting training for reconnaissance units of the 1st and 2nd Army Corps on the territory of the temporarily occupied territories of Luhansk and Donetsk regions. What is more, reconnaissance and subversive groups are being constantly sent to the “grey zone” to plant mines and fire at the JFO positions.
Commission of the Southern Military District of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federationhas started oversight activity over the misuse of money provided in 2019 for combat training and day to day activity. The commission is consisted of 40 senior officers.
Apart from that, a commission consisted of representatives of Main Missile – Artillery Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and the Southern Military District will work in the 1st and 2nd Army Corps of the Russian Occupation troops to further define amount of supply of the missiles, artillery shells and ammunition to the units of the Russian Occupation troops.
