Welcome to the Press Center of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. Here is the weekly update of the situation in the operations area of the Joint Forces from 09 to 15 September 2019.
1. During the last week, the situation in the JFO area was tense. The Russian Occupation forces have significantly increased the number of ceasefire violations especially using weapons which are forbidden by the Minsk agreements. In many cases, 120mm and 82mm mortars were used to shell the JFO positions. Moreover, the Russian Occupation forces used small arms, grenade launchers, heavy machine guns, anti-tank missiles, Infantry Fighting Vehicles and other infantry weapons.
Over the past week, from 09 to 15 September 2019, Ukrainian defenders’ positions fell under provocative fire by the Russian Occupation forces for 125 times. Thus:
On September 9, the enemy used 82 mm mortars to shell the JFO positions near Zaitseve.
On September 11, the Russian Occupation forces has fired 6 120mm mines against the JFO positions near Avdiivka and also shelled Luhanske and Novoluhanske with 82mm mortars.
What is more, on September 12, the enemy had fired 32 120mm and 37 82mm mines.
Over September 13, the Russian Occupation forces for 7 times have used weapons in violation of the Minsk agreements. This day the Russian Occupation Forces has fired 4 120 and 31 82mm mines.
On September 14, the Russian Occupation forces over the course of 50 minutes have shelled Ukrainian defenders positions near Novotoshkivske by firing 43 120mm mines and 25 82 mm mines.
The situation in the operation area is under full control of the Joint Forces.
Our servicemen opened fire in response to suppress enemy activity using infantry weapons and by strictly adhering to the Minsk agreements.
2. As the result of the Russian armed aggression, 14 of servicemen from the JFO were WIA and 2 got combat trauma. They were all transferred to the military medical facilities where they are being treated.
We want to inform with grief that 4 servicemen were killed by defending country in the East.
Ministry of Defense of Ukraine expresses sincerest condolences to families and loved ones of our deceased defenders.
3. And now to the information from the Defense Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
From September 20, under the command of the headquarters of the Southern military district of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, a comprehensive inspection of the troops and units of the 1 and 2 Army Corps of the Russian Occupation Forces will be carried out to determine their deployment capabilities for the next year.
Moreover, the command of theRussian Occupation Forces is taking measures to cover up violations of the Minsk agreements. From the beginning of September, the enemy have enhanced its activities near the frontline on concealment and masking of the artillery systems and weapons which are forbidden by the Minsk agreements. The Russian Occupation Forces uses UAV to verify and correct the disadvantages in concealment of the forbidden weapons. In addition, the enemy has increased the number of training of artillery crews.
The command of the Russian Occupation forces under the cover of enhancing the security of military facilities are increasing the area of mine and explosion barriers, including in troop withdrawal areas. Engineer units of the Russian Occupation Forces are conducting additional mining activities along field roads, highways and overpasses by installing anti-personnel and anti-tank mines. At the same time, agricultural lands are also being mined. Such actions of the Russian Occupation forces put under the threat the lives of the civilian population in the temporarily occupied territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts.
