Welcome to the Press Center of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. Here is the weekly update of the situation in the operations area of the Joint Forces from 03rd to 9th June 2019.
1. During the last week, the situation in the JFO area has escalated dramatically. The Russian Occupation forces has significantly increased the number of ceasefire violations. The enemy used weapons which are prohibited by the Minsk agreements. 152mm and 122mm artillery systems, 120mm and 82mm mortars were used to shell the JFO positions. Moreover, the Russian Occupation forces used small arms, grenade launchers, heavy machine guns, anti-tank missiles and other infantry weapons.
Over the past week, from 03rd to 9th June 2019, Ukrainian defenders’ positions fell under provocative fire by the Russian Occupation forces for 133 times. Thus:
On June 3rd, the JFO staff recorded 24 120mm mines and more than 10 82mm mines which were fired against the JFO positions.
On June 5th, the Russian Occupation forces has fired 18 82mm mines.
What is more, on June 7th, the enemy had actively used 152 mm and 122 mm artillery systems as well as 120mm and 82mm mortars.
Over June 8th, the enemy fired more than 119 122mm artillery shells and 130 120mm and 82mm mines.
On June 9th, in violations of the Minsk agreements, the Russian Occupation forces used prohibited weapons for 8 times.
Once again, in violation of the provision, which is prescribed in the Minsk agreements, aa withdrawal of forces from Stanytsia Luhanska was undermined by the Russian Occupation Forces. The JFO have recorded the ceasefire violations from the Russian Occupation Forces in this area starting from 7 June 2019. The next possible date for withdrawal is 16th June. The JFO forces are ready for withdrawal.
The situation in the operation area is under full control of the Joint Forces.
Our servicemen opened fire in response to suppress enemy activity using infantry weapons and by strictly adhering to the Minsk agreements.
1.2. As the result of the Russian armed aggression, 15 of our servicemen were WIA and 13 got combat trauma. They were all transferred to the military medical facilities where they are being treated.
We want to inform with grief that 7 servicemen were killed by defending country in the East of Ukraine.
We express our sincerest condolences to families and loved ones of our deceased defenders.
1.3. And now to the information from the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
The Russian Occupation command has significantly increased training of the artillery and mortar crews. So-called mobile artillery and mortar groups are aerated along the front line which is the direct violation of the Minsk agreements. Moreover, these units are trained by the active Russian officers. Also to increase the effectiveness of these groups, UAVs are used and the flights of these UAVs are adjusted to the electronic warfare assets of the Russian Occupation forces.
Command of the Russian Occupation forces has intensified engineering activities to equip new firing positions along the frontline to covertly shell the JFO units and provoke backfire. In such a way the enemy tries to create artificial precedents and fabricate fake news to discredit the Armed Forces of Ukraine and to accuse them of alleged ceasefire violations.
Moreover, a great number of verification teams from Southern military district of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation started to inspect training activities of the Russian Occupation units. Thus, the number of non-combat casualties among the Russian Occupation forces has increased. In one of the enemy’s units fratricide happened during exercise which led to the death of Russian servicemen.
This is all information for now. Glory to Ukraine!
