President of Ukraine, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko heard the report by Oleksandr Turchynov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, on the trial of new Ukrainian missiles, including control launches of the Vilkha M missile complexes, which took place in the south of Odesa region.
“I would like to congratulate you on the successful trials that were held today. This is the final stage of the creation of the Vilkha M complex, high-precision MLRS with an increased range of action long-awaited by the troops,” Petro Poroshenko said in the Situational Center during the direct communication with the NSDC command at the trial site.
The President congratulated Minister of Defense Stepan Poltorak and the entire staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the new opportunities arising after the provision of this unique missile complex manufactured in Ukraine.
The Head of State also emphasized: “It is very symbolic that these tests today take place exactly on the 70th anniversary of the creation of NATO. Our course — we are heading for NATO, we reform our Armed Forces, we increase their combat capabilities. And I am pleased that Ukraine is, in fact, NATO’s eastern flank, well-armed. We go to NATO not with a begging bowl, we go as a full-fledged, equal partner, who today defends democracy and freedom on the European continent, rebuffing the aggressor — the Russian Federation”.
According to the Head of State, this is the fulfillment of his proposals submitted to the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine regarding the creation of a missile shield in accordance with the new opportunities arising after the withdrawal of the RF from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty.
“We receive new opportunities. The first steps have taken place today. Tomorrow, a convincing demonstration of the new capabilities of the Ukrainian defense industry representatives in the AFU will be presented,” Petro Poroshenko said.
The President thanked for the successful trials everyone involved in this process, in particular, employees of Luch design bureau: “You have really done a great job over the last four years. And a successful launch today is a vivid confirmation of that”.
The secretary of the National Security and Defense Council informed that the control launch had been successful. The Vilkha M missile complex was adopted by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and mass production of these missiles, capable of destroying the enemy at a distance of 130 km, was started.
“Our missile engineers and manufacturers continue to work on the creation of state-of-the-art missiles that will precisely destroy targets at a distance of over 200 kilometers,” the NSDC Secretary added, informing of the state of implementation of the NSDC program aimed to increase the missile power of Ukraine approved by the Head of State.
“The impressions are very positive. The technical capabilities of the new missile significantly increase the combat capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” Minister of Defense of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak noted in his turn.
