MILITARY CAREER

1994 — 2006 platoon, company, and battalion commander;

2007 — 2008 Chief of the Troops Service Department, Senior Officer of the Combat Training Department of the Army Corps;

2008 — 2010 Deputy Commander of a separate mechanized regiment;

2010 — 2013 Chief of Staff — First Deputy Commander of a separate mechanized brigade;

2013 Commander of a separate mechanized regiment;

2013 — 2014 Chief of the Troop Planning Department — Deputy Chief of the Operational Department of the Operational Command HQ;

2014 — 2017 Commander of a separate mountain infantry brigade of the Operational Command “West” of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine;

2017 Deputy Commander of the Operational Command “South” of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine;

2017–2020 Chief of Staff — First Deputy Commander of the Operational Command “South” of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine;

2020–2021 Commander of the Operational Command “West” of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine;

since July 28, 2021 Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

He is awarded state and service awards. On February 18, 2015, by the Decree of the President of Ukraine, the title of Hero of Ukraine was awarded the Order of the Golden Star.

Lieutenant General Serhii SHAPTALA is married and father of two children.
