“The construction of housing for the military is an issue that is under my personal control. I believe that any failure in the schedule is inadmissible. Our position is to ensure the implementation of the decision of the National Security and Defense Council in terms of full financing of the given project,” President Petro Poroshenko said in Lviv region during a meeting on the implementation of the program of construction of improved dormitories for servicemen-contractors.
The President emphasized that “commissioning of 184 dormitories will provide housing for 23 thousand servicemen and improve the living conditions in the training area”.
The President also said that the day before, together with the Minister of Defense and the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, he had inspected the construction in Shyrokyi Lan training area.
“We could see the course of construction of the new barracks in the training area. In March-April 2017, there was an open country, there were no networks, no water supply, no heating supply, no electricity networks, no sewage treatment plants. To date, there are 11 barracks with a high level of readiness to accommodate the respective brigades,” the President said. According to him, comfortable conditions, much better than those in some NATO countries in similar training areas, are being created for the military.
“We agreed that during the second stage of construction there will be both a store and a place for rest. Appropriate sports facilities are under construction already. A very good dining room for 5 thousand people,” he added.
“I instruct to finish the first line of the barracks by November. Please, take the conclusion of contracts under personal control and do it solely within the ProZorro system,” the President said.
Petro Poroshenko also emphasized the priority of commissioning a training area in Odesa: “I am planning to set a historical record, so that today Ukrainian servicemen are busy and focused exclusively on combat training”. At the same time, he emphasized the fact that all the training areas would be provided with all the necessary equipment, including modern military equipment available to the best European military units of NATO countries.
The President also informed that in the territory of Yavoriv center, the necessary premises for 4,000 servicemen will be built. “I think that this is a record in the history of the Ukrainian army,” Petro Poroshenko added.
According to the Head of State, in the best years, not more than a thousand apartments were built in the whole system of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: “Only today, and only in Yavoriv, we create housing for 4 thousand servicemen”.
“I think that this a good characteristic of the approach, priorities and tasks I set today,” the President summed up.
