According to the plan of humanitarian demining of the liberated territories of Donetsk and Lugansk regions for 2019, approved by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, under the general coordination of the Department of Environmental Security and Mine Action, the clearing of lands contaminated as a result of the Russian armed aggression is ongoing.
From 2016 to 2018, with the financial support of governments from United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Finland, Belgium, Switzerland, the European Union and the Czech Republic, the HALO Trast mine group has cleared 11 sites in Stanytsia Luhanska and Bilovodsk area with a total of 66 hectares, equivalent to 92 football fields. The Representatives of Mine Action Center of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have inspected these sites to confirm their compliance with international and national standards of mine action.

On August 8, NGO HALO Trast with the representatives of MOD and local authorities has transferred 11 land plots to representatives of local authorities in Stanytsia Luhanska.
As a result of the conflict, the population in the East of Ukraine is not only facing threats of injuries caused by mines and other explosive devices, but also losing access to their land that could be used for agriculture or infrastructure development. Therefore, land mine clearance not only helps to enhance security, but also restores the opportunity to return for a peaceful life.
