Welcome to the Press Center of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. Here is the weekly update of the situation in the operations area of the Joint Forces from 20th to 26th May 2019.

During the last week, the Russian Occupation forces continued to destabilize situation in the operation area of the JFO. The enemy used weapons which are prohibited by the Minsk agreements. Besides 82mm and 120mm mortars and 122 mm artillery systems, the Russian Occupation forces used small arms, grenade launchers, heavy machine guns, anti-tank missiles and other infantry weapons.

Over the past week, from 20th to 26th May 2019, Ukrainian defenders’ positions fell under provocative fire by the Russian Occupation forces for 57 times. Thus:

On May 20th, the enemy has fired 34 82mm mines against the JFO positions.

What is more, on May 22nd, the Russian Occupation forces shelled the JFO positions near Zolote-4 village firing more than 30 82mm and 120 mm mines and a few 122 mm artillery shells.

On May 23rd, more than 13 82mm and 120mm mines were fired by the enemy.

One more time, on May 24th, the Russian Occupation forces has fired 25 120mm and 82mm mines.

The situation in the operation area is under full control of the Joint Forces.

Our servicemen opened fire in response to suppress enemy activity using infantry weapons and by strictly adhering to the Minsk agreements.

As the result of the Russian armed aggression, 7 of our servicemen were WIA.

We want to inform with grief that during last week, 1 serviceman was KIA. We express our sincerest condolences to families and loved ones of our deceased defender.

And now to the information from the Defense Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

According to the directives from the Kremlin the Russian Occupation administration has started a massive propaganda campaign among local population to further disseminate information to increase the number of people who has obtained citizenship of the Russian Federation. They also urge local population to convince their relatives on the government controlled territories to do the same.

Moreover, the Russian Occupation authorities have increased the intensity of the dissemination of false and distorted messages by local media with allegations of the JFO in the violation of the ceasefire and shelling of civilian infrastructure. In this way, Russian propagandists are trying to convince the local population to intensify hostilities on the part of the Ukrainian side. At the same time, propaganda film groups, one of them is Russian television channel NTV, are involved in the preparation of provocative materials for misleading the population.
